On January 29, 2026, Professor Peng Hailin's research group hailing from the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University published a groundbreaking research paper titled "Wafer-Scale Ultrathin and Uniform van der Waals Ferroelectric Oxide" in the esteemed journal Science. This study introduces a novel high-dielectric-constant van der Waals ferroelectric material—α-bismuth selenite (Bi2SeO5). For the very first time on a wafer-scale level, the team has successfully realized the controllable fabrication of ultrathin and uniformly distributed ferroelectric films along with their heterostructures, and has also constructed the relevant devices.
