Based on information from three sources with inside knowledge of the situation, Micron Technology is poised to announce on January 27 its plan to invest in the construction of a new NAND flash memory production line in Singapore. This move aims to boost production capacity and alleviate the global shortage of memory chips. Micron already operates extensive manufacturing facilities in Singapore, where a staggering 98% of its flash memory chips are produced. Moreover, the company is in the process of building a state-of-the-art packaging plant in Singapore, valued at US$7 billion, dedicated to the production of high-bandwidth memory for AI chips. Production at this new facility is anticipated to commence in 2027.
