On the evening of January 24, Tsinghua Tongfang Co., Ltd. released a solemn obituary announcing that Lu Zhicheng, the former president and chairman of the company, had passed away on the morning of the same day in Haikou, Hainan Province, at the age of 78, after a prolonged battle with illness.
Lu Zhicheng was born in Shanghai in 1948. He graduated from the Department of Thermal Engineering at Tsinghua University in 1977. Subsequently, he chose to stay at the university, embarking on a teaching career. His dedication and expertise eventually led to his promotion to professor and doctoral supervisor.
In 1989, he took the initiative to establish the Beijing Tsinghua Artificial Environment Engineering Company, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and vision. In 1997, he played a pivotal role in facilitating the restructuring and reorganization of Tsinghua University's school-run enterprises, which culminated in the formation and subsequent listing of Tsinghua Tongfang Co., Ltd.
From 1997 to 2015, under his astute leadership, Tsinghua Tongfang successfully deployed core businesses in areas such as information technology, public safety, and energy conservation and environmental protection. His strategic guidance and nurturing resulted in the cultivation and growth of several renowned enterprises, including Nuctech, CNKI, Tongfang Guoxin, and Tongfang Computer.
