On December 30, Reuters reported, citing sources, that both Samsung and SK Hynix have secured U.S. approval to export chip-manufacturing equipment to China starting in 2026. Previously, the United States had revoked certain technology firms' license exemptions for exporting chip-making equipment. However, it has now temporarily eased restrictions for South Korean companies. Samsung, SK Hynix, and TSMC had all been beneficiaries of the U.S. 'Validated End-User (VEU)' program. This program permits listed companies to import specific controlled items from the United States—such as semiconductor equipment and technology—without the need to obtain individual export licenses.
