On December 27, Chile's state-owned powerhouse, Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO), and lithium behemoth Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM) unveiled plans to amalgamate their subsidiaries, giving birth to a fresh joint venture. This newly formed entity will immerse itself in the full spectrum of lithium activities—ranging from exploration, extraction, and production to commercialization—within the vast expanse of the Atacama Salt Flat. The venture's operational horizon is set to stretch until 2060. This strategic alliance heralds the official kick-off of a public-private partnership pact aimed at harnessing and advancing Chile's abundant lithium reserves.
