The photovoltaic silicon wafer manufacturing facility operated by South Korea's OCI Group in Vietnam is poised to kick off full-scale production in January 2026. The project, which has seen a total investment of US$120 million, is engineered to initially boast an annual production capacity of 2.7 gigawatts. This capacity can subsequently be expanded to reach up to 5.4 gigawatts. By securing a 65% ownership stake in the Vietnamese plant, OCI has successfully qualified as a 'Non-Restricted Foreign Entity (PFE)'. This strategic move enables the company to circumvent the U.S. import restrictions imposed on certain foreign supply chains. OCI's overarching goal is to establish a non-Chinese photovoltaic supply chain, with a particular focus on catering to the U.S. market.
