Sources indicate that ASUS is gearing up to step into the DRAM manufacturing arena in the second quarter of 2026. The primary objective is to secure a steady memory supply for its TUF and ROG product lines. Moreover, this strategic move is aimed at tackling the worldwide DRAM shortage and the escalating prices in the market. Such an initiative could potentially spur ASUS's transformation from a hardware integrator to a chip manufacturer. This transition would not only redefine its business model but also boost the pricing competitiveness of its PC offerings. At present, leading DRAM producers like Micron are progressively withdrawing from the consumer market and redirecting their focus towards the AI and server domains. This shift has paved the way for ASUS to make its foray into this sector. Nonetheless, venturing into in-house DRAM production is no small feat for ASUS and presents a host of challenges. If ASUS manages to pull it off successfully, apart from catering to its own requirements, it could also extend production capacity support to other PC manufacturers.
