TSMC is making headway in constructing a semiconductor wafer plant in Phoenix, Arizona, with the ambitious vision of turning the area into a thriving semiconductor hub. At present, one wafer plant has been successfully completed and is fully operational. Meanwhile, construction is in full swing for two additional plants. Looking ahead, there are grand plans to build three more factories and two advanced packaging facilities. The overarching goal is to manufacture one - third of its advanced chips right here in the United States.
This colossal project sprawls across an area of 465 hectares and comes with a staggering price tag of $165 billion, placing it among the most costly projects on a global scale. It has drawn in investments totaling around $40 billion from a multitude of suppliers. These suppliers operate across various sectors, including chemicals, component manufacturing, and construction services, all contributing to the realization of this monumental endeavor.
