In recent years, Aptiv has strategically realigned its supply chain framework to better cater to regional markets, with China emerging as a pivotal global production hub. According to Kevin Clark, the company's CEO, Aptiv has weathered the tariff storm with minimal disruption, attributing this resilience to its judicious global supply chain configuration. In China, Aptiv has embraced a holistic localization approach, partnering closely with automotive firms to advance the utilization of local semiconductor suppliers. A striking 80% or more of the raw materials and components used in Aptiv's Chinese-market products are sourced domestically, with substantial localized investments funneled into the chip industry. Over the past half-decade, China's new energy vehicle sector has witnessed explosive growth, a trend mirrored by Aptiv's expanding business footprint in the country, marked by strategic investments and production base relocations to Shanghai and its environs. Clark emphasized the necessity for multinational corporations to keep pace with the Chinese market's rapid evolution, while also highlighting the untapped potential within emerging tech firms. Furthermore, he refuted the notion of universal vertical integration among automakers, pointing out that even vertically integrated manufacturers often continue to rely on external suppliers once they reach a certain scale.
