Storage behemoth Kioxia has unveiled a partnership with NVIDIA to introduce a groundbreaking new solid-state drive (SSD) boasting read speeds nearly 100 times faster than those of traditional SSDs. This innovative product is anticipated to hit the market by 2027. Geared primarily towards the generative AI computing server sector, this SSD leverages a GPU direct-connect configuration to substantially boost data transfer efficiency. Its random read capabilities soar to 100 million IOPS per second, a staggering increase of about 100 times compared to conventional offerings. Moreover, there are strategies in place to fulfill NVIDIA's demand for 200 million IOPS by integrating two SSDs. The drive will be compatible with the PCIe 7.0 interface, with the ambition to substitute some of the HBM memory currently utilized in AI servers, thereby offering a more economical storage alternative for AI computations.
