Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, has revealed that his team responsible for the AI5 chip design has successfully wrapped up the design review phase. He expressed high expectations, stating that the chip is poised to become an 'epic' addition to Tesla's technological arsenal. Furthermore, Musk hinted at the potential of the AI6 chip to emerge as the pinnacle of AI chip development.

Previously, Musk made the strategic decision to disband Tesla's Dojo supercomputer team. He believed that redirecting resources towards the accelerated development of the AI5 and AI6 chips was a more judicious move.

The AI5 and AI6 chips are primarily intended to bolster the training capabilities of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving systems. Specifically, the AI5 chip, which will be manufactured by TSMC, is anticipated to commence production by the end of 2026. Its initial applications will focus on vehicle inference and computing cluster training.

On the other hand, the AI6 chip, manufactured by Samsung, is envisioned as the central hub of the future AI ecosystem. Its first deployment will be in robotaxis and humanoid robots, with the potential to later extend its reach to AI data centers, thereby posing a challenge to Nvidia's offerings.

Although Tesla has already secured a substantial $16.5 billion supply agreement with Samsung, the exact timeline for production remains undisclosed. The initial batch of AI6 chip samples will be produced in South Korea, with plans to subsequently transition to mass production in U.S. factories.
