South Korea's Exports Surge 1.3% Year-on-Year in August, Semiconductor Exports Reach All-Time High

On September 1, South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy unveiled the import and export figures for August, revealing a 1.3% year-on-year increase in exports, totaling $58.4 billion. This marks the third straight month of positive growth. Imports, on the other hand, declined by 4.0% year-on-year to $51.89 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $6.51 billion for the month. Among the key export sectors, semiconductors shone brightly, with exports soaring to $15.1 billion in August, a 27.1% year-on-year jump, setting a fresh record. Furthermore, automobile exports also exhibited robust performance, rising by 8.6% year-on-year to $5.5 billion in August, the highest for that month in history, and marking the third consecutive month of growth.
