The South Korean government announced on Friday its intention to substantially increase its trade response budget for 2026 to 2.1 trillion won (approximately $1.5 billion), marking a nearly 70-fold escalation from this year's budget. This proposal, ratified at a state council meeting earlier in the day, signifies a major leap from the 2025 budget of 30 billion won. Out of the 2026 allocation, 1.9 trillion won will be specifically allocated to cooperative projects in sectors like shipbuilding and semiconductors, aimed at supporting the implementation of the Korea-U.S. tariff agreement.
