On July 26th, during the meteorological segment of the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, the National Satellite Meteorological Center, in partnership with Nanchang University and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., proudly unveiled Fengyu—the groundbreaking first AI-driven space weather chain forecast model in the world. Fengyu is designed to mitigate the effects of solar storms on vital infrastructures, encompassing global satellite operations, radio communications, and satellite navigation and positioning systems. Unlike conventional numerical models, Fengyu showcases remarkable advancements in computational efficiency and real-time responsiveness, positioning it as the pioneering AI-based space weather forecast model that spans the entire chain, from solar wind to the magnetosphere and ionosphere.
