A coalition of independent publishers has lodged complaints against Google's "AI Overview" feature, alleging that it irreparably damages competition, potentially drawing Google once more into the crosshairs of EU antitrust policies. The publishers are urging the EU to implement interim measures and have already filed similar grievances with the UK's competition watchdog. Google's AI Overview feature employs AI technology to compile search result summaries and positions them prominently above traditional webpage links. Deployed in over 200 countries and regions, it boasts a user base exceeding 1.5 billion. This action has stirred anxiety among content providers, including publishers, who contend that Google is leveraging its dominant position in the online search market to the detriment of their interests.
