Wikipedia has halted its pilot program for AI-generated article summaries following a wave of protests from its editors. As reported by 404 Media, the online encyclopedia had announced earlier this month that it would trial AI-generated summaries for users who installed its browser extension and opted in to the feature. These AI-generated summaries would appear at the top of articles, accompanied by a label clearly stating that they were "unverified." However, editors, concerned about the potential impact on Wikipedia's credibility, swiftly expressed their disapproval.

Given the recurring issues of inaccuracy in AI-generated content, Wikipedia has decided to suspend the experiment. Nonetheless, the organization remains open to exploring the use of AI summaries in other contexts, such as enhancing accessibility.
