On June 11, local time, Disney and Universal Pictures jointly filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the AI platform Midjourney. The suit alleges that Midjourney utilized content from both companies without authorization to train its image generation and editing models, and further distributed unauthorized copies of their iconic characters. The two companies have taken their case to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, accusing Midjourney of ignoring requests to cease infringement and continuing to violate their intellectual property rights. They are seeking financial compensation as well as an injunction to prevent future infringements. This matter was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
