A team of researchers from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States has triumphantly introduced "Zippy," the world's smallest electric autonomous bipedal micro-robot, measuring less than 4 centimeters in height. Outfitted with advanced onboard batteries, actuators, and control systems, "Zippy" autonomously initiates and executes movements such as walking, turning, jumping, and climbing at an impressive rate of 10 steps per second. This groundbreaking achievement was showcased at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation. The research team emphasized that Zippy's bipedal design equips it to navigate uneven terrain, making it a promising candidate for future applications in post-disaster search and rescue missions, industrial inspections, and beyond.
