Last week, OpenAI unveiled plans to undergo a significant restructuring, ensuring that its nonprofit entity retains ultimate control over the new model. On Tuesday, this strategic shift received the green light from one of OpenAI's key investors, the Japanese tech behemoth SoftBank. This marks SoftBank's first public endorsement of the plan, which is part of a broader agreement where the company pledged a $30 billion investment in OpenAI, contingent on the latter altering its corporate structure.

Earlier this year, in March, OpenAI successfully completed a $40 billion funding round, with SoftBank contributing $30 billion. SoftBank had previously set a condition: if OpenAI failed to restructure into a for-profit entity by December 31, the investment would be scaled back to $20 billion. However, with the recent approval, OpenAI has taken a significant step forward in its evolution.
