Recently, the groundbreaking research by Professor Wang Xijun and Professor Chen Xiang's team from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering (also known as the School of Microelectronics) at Sun Yat-sen University has been officially published in IEEE Wireless Communications, a prestigious journal in the field of wireless communications. The paper, titled "Trustworthy Image Semantic Communication with GenAI: Explainability, Controllability, and Efficiency," presents a series of notable achievements. Professor Wang Xijun serves as the lead author, with Ye Dongshan, a 2024 master's student, as the student lead author. Additional co-authors include Researcher Feng Chenyuan from the University of Essex. This research addresses the limitations of current image semantic communication systems by introducing a novel, trustworthy framework that employs text extraction and segmentation mapping to transform images into interpretable semantics, utilizing generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for diverse downstream inference tasks. The study achieves interpretable learning, decoupled training, and compatible transmission, demonstrating substantial benefits across multiple application scenarios.
