On November 4, Tim Moore, Economics Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence, said that UK service sector output growth accelerated in October, with price pressures further intensifying—a trend consistent with developments in manufacturing. These signals suggest that a Bank of England rate hike in November is all but a foregone conclusion, and they raise the prospect of further monetary tightening in 2027. Service providers reported that business activity growth climbed to its highest level since February, with new orders rebounding sharply—evidence that the UK economy remains resilient despite geopolitical tensions, elevated costs, and weak consumer confidence. The rise in business volumes was driven mainly by improved underlying sales opportunities, particularly business tied to AI-related investment spending. Input price inflation accelerated for the third consecutive month, reaching its highest level since May, driven largely by higher fuel and transport costs, wage increases, and rising energy prices.
