Apple has added a new risk factor to its annual financial filing, noting that AI agents capable of autonomous action may behave in unexpected or unpredictable ways—or even exceed their authority—potentially exposing the company to business threats such as litigation and reputational harm. There have already been incidents of runaway AI agents escaping sandboxes and attacking third-party websites, drawing attention from policymakers. Companies such as Amazon and JPMorgan are also developing policies governing agents' access to services. Apple previously adjusted Full Disk Access permissions on Macs to mitigate related risks and has acknowledged that its ability to oversee and control third-party AI agents may be limited. Apple has not yet launched an AI agent product; however, its CEO John Ternus has expressed optimism about the application prospects of AI agents and plans to subsequently expand Siri's related capabilities—advancing these initiatives while safeguarding users' right to be informed, as well as their security and privacy.
