On October 28, reports emerged that China's Hong Kong witnessed an extraordinary surge in its exports during September, with a remarkable year-on-year increase of 64.9%. This surge marks the highest growth rate in over four decades, with artificial intelligence (AI)-related products playing a pivotal role in driving this export boom. According to preliminary data unveiled by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Wednesday, the total value of goods exports in September soared to HKD 762.6 billion (equivalent to approximately USD 97.8 billion). This continues the strong upward momentum that followed an already impressive 53% year-on-year increase in August. This achievement signifies the 12th consecutive month of double-digit growth in Hong Kong's exports and represents the highest month-on-month increase in over 40 years. A spokesperson for the HKSAR government forecasted that, fueled by the ongoing investment surge in AI-related sectors and the robustness of the global economy, Hong Kong's merchandise trade performance is poised for continued improvement.
