Recently, Qin Shuo, founder of Qin Shuo's Circle of Friends, and Li Liang, Vice President of Douyin Group, engaged in a discussion on whether there exists a 'ByteDance Time' in China's internet. Citing data from QuestMobile referenced by Nomura Securities, Qin Shuo pointed out that in August 2026, among the top 50 apps in terms of mobile internet usage duration in China, ByteDance-affiliated apps accounted for 41.8%, while Tencent-affiliated apps accounted for 28.6%, with a difference of approximately 13.2 percentage points. He argued that ByteDance's significant share of total user time could be summarized as 'ByteDance Time in China's Internet.' In response, Li Liang countered that the internet competition is fierce, and no single company can define 'xx Time in China's Internet.' He also noted that market dynamics in sectors like short dramas and short videos change rapidly, with Tencent's growth in short dramas and short videos far surpassing that of Douyin and Hongguo.
