The UK government has declared its intention to allocate £100 million (equivalent to roughly $134 million) towards the establishment of an AI-driven biosafety laboratory. This cutting-edge facility will harness the power of artificial intelligence to pinpoint and keep a close watch on biological threats. OpenAI and Anthropic are set to contribute to this endeavor by offering computing power support for AI models, valued at up to £200 million, to bolster the laboratory's capabilities. Moreover, the laboratory will embark on collaborative projects with Google DeepMind and life sciences firm Basecamp Research. The UK government has further earmarked an extra £65 million to foster the development of innovative strategies for combating pathogens.
