The Browser Company has declared that it will officially terminate the service of its Arc browser on December 22, 2026, and will redirect its efforts towards the development of the AI-powered browser, Dia. The phase-out of the Arc browser will unfold in stages: Effective immediately, the creation of new accounts will be suspended. Beginning November 23, certain AI functionalities and login synchronization features of Arc Search on mobile devices will cease to function, limiting its use to local operations only. By December 22, the desktop version of Arc will be fully discontinued, with related applications being withdrawn from app stores. Additionally, users' personal data will be deleted within 30 days. The Dia browser will incorporate many of the original features of Arc and facilitate the transfer of data, including passwords and bookmarks. The classic features of Arc will remain available to users free of charge, while AI-driven features will be presented as optional enhancements. It is reported that The Browser Company had already halted active development of Arc as early as 2025, redirecting its focus to the research and development of Dia. In the same year, the company was acquired by Atlassian for a staggering $610 million. Given that Arc was constructed using a proprietary toolkit that serves as the foundational engine for Dia, and involves core intellectual property considerations, it cannot be made open-source. The discontinuation of Arc underscores The Browser Company's strategic commitment to AI browsers and also highlights Arc's inability to establish itself as a viable mainstream alternative to Chrome.
