Anthropic has announced that it will donate the Agent Skills open standard to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) under the Linux Foundation, facilitating the transformation of this standard from a single-company project into a community-governed AI agent capability standard. AAIF was co-founded by Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI. Previously, Anthropic had already donated the Model Context Protocol to this organization. Agent Skills is a standard for skill descriptions tailored to AI agents. Since its release, it has been integrated by over 70 agent platforms, with approximately 1 million publicly available Skills and a cumulative total of around 280 million installations. This donation includes the standard itself, along with its associated name, logo, GitHub organization, and domain name. Moving forward, the standard will remain open, community-led, and vendor-neutral, allowing developers and enterprises to continue using or contributing to the standard without the need to join AAIF.
