The Japan Actors Association has rolled out the inaugural version of its generative AI usage guidelines, aiming to curb the unauthorized application of AI in replicating actors' voices. These guidelines make it clear that for every phase of voice replication, as well as when AI companies utilize actors' voices to train models, explicit permission must be secured from the actors or performers themselves. Voices generated by AI with proper authorization are regarded as performances, and companies are obligated to pay royalties to the actors.
