Gartner predicts that the total global investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure from 2026 to 2030 will reach $7 trillion, but by 2030, it will generate a maximum of only $3.6 trillion in revenue. After considering financing costs and a 12% return on investment, revenue needs to reach $8.5 trillion to break even, leaving a gap of approximately $5 trillion. Relevant investments may not achieve the 12% return target until 2032, and before that, over $4 trillion in assets may face impairment risks. Additionally, Gartner also predicts that by 2030, over 80% of emerging AI cloud service providers will cease independent operations, as they struggle to recoup investments amid limited industry spending growth and chip iteration cycles.
