Anthropic released its internal research report titled "The Evolution of Employment at Anthropic." Based on diverse internal data and in-depth interviews, the report analyzes changes in work content, recruitment structures, and labor demand following the deep integration of AI. It draws four key conclusions: First, while the company's overall workforce continues to grow, the proportion of entry-level technical hires dropped from 27% in early 2025 to 9% in 2026, with new positions increasingly concentrated at mid-to-senior and expert levels. Similar trends are observed in non-technical departments. Second, AI agents' working hours have surged rapidly. By August 2026, interactive agents directly supervised by employees logged six times the working hours of human operators, significantly boosting productivity across all departments. After excluding business growth factors, AI's positive contribution to output was confirmed, with AI-generated code quality showing no significant difference from handwritten code. Third, employees' work content has undergone structural transformation, shifting from direct task execution to meta-work such as tool-building, process monitoring, and agent management. Human attention has become the new bottleneck, with recruitment criteria shifting from domain expertise to traits like autonomy and judgment. Finally, while the company has established early warning systems and internal personnel reallocation mechanisms, these corporate-level measures are insufficient to address broader societal issues like shrinking entry-level opportunities. As a frontrunner in AI adoption, Anthropic's transformations provide a case study for observing AI's impact on corporate work patterns and hiring needs. Under AI disruption, entry-level roles' function as starting points for career newcomers to accumulate experience is weakening. Issues like skills development and transition cost-sharing now exceed the capacity of individual companies, as AI reshapes the meaning, entry barriers, and value hierarchy of work.
