Huatai Securities' strategic analysis of A-shares suggests that the recent uptick in trading volumes for broad-based ETFs could potentially offer support to indices at their current low levels. Nevertheless, historical patterns indicate that such volume surges frequently precede a downturn, prompting a recommendation for a cautious, defensive investment approach. This strategy emphasizes sectors that have demonstrated sequential earnings acceleration in their Q3 earnings reports. Last week, the A-share market experienced an initial decline followed by a rebound, accompanied by an overall decrease in trading volume. Notably, the AI hardware sector suffered significant losses. The correction within the AI sector is part of a broader global trend, driven by market skepticism regarding the scalability of AI performance and the longevity of its funding sources, resulting in a heightened aversion to risk. In contrast, the food and beverage, as well as banking sectors, bucked the trend and posted gains. Despite the early stage of Q3 earnings releases, the market has responded favorably to individual stocks that have reported sequential earnings growth. This positive market reaction can provide valuable insights for short-term trading strategies. Regarding asset allocation, it is advisable to uphold defensive positions, such as low-volatility dividend-paying stocks. Within the AI sector, focus should be placed on individual stocks within the PCB, optical components, and semiconductor equipment segments. Outside the AI sector, attention should be directed towards sectors including general and specialized equipment, wind power and grid infrastructure, shipping, glass fiber and chemical fiber, and medical services.
