Figma unveiled its new Markdown-based editor, Figma Specs, at its inaugural Config conference in India, while also expanding the public testing scope for its code layer. Additionally, the company advanced the integration of Payload with Figma Make, further optimizing the workflow for AI-assisted design and development. Figma Specs allows users to define design languages in document form, which can be saved independently or coexist with the canvas. It supports various content references and embeds, enabling the integration of diverse resources to provide centralized design specifications for teams and AI agents, thereby enhancing adherence to brand guidelines in generated content. Since initiating internal testing of the code layer in June this year, the expanded access now allows users to add code to designs for creating interactive prototypes and facilitates mutual conversion and iteration between design and code via AI agents. Currently, the number of generated code lines has increased to 17 times the previous amount, although this code is primarily used for product exploration design rather than direct release. Additionally, Figma's MCP now supports over 20 new tools. Figma is also integrating its acquired open-source headless CMS, Payload, into Figma Make to generate dynamic websites and manage content directly, with Payload's downloads having increased sixfold over the past 12 months. India represents Figma's largest user market outside the United States, with Figma having established partnerships with 40% of India's top 100 listed companies. This update reduces uncertainty in AI-generated content by integrating design specifications, code generation, and content management, further promoting the convergence of design and software development processes.
