On October 16, CNBC and The Wall Street Journal reported that Meta Platforms had released a new open-weight AI model called Muse Spark Open, primarily designed for programming and AI agent tasks. However, Meta has not made its most powerful model open-source. Alexandr Wang, Meta's Chief AI Officer, stated that Muse Spark Open is not the company's most powerful model, and Muse Wonder, introduced earlier this week, remains closed-source. Meta also acknowledged that, in tasks such as software development, Chinese open-weight models outperform Muse Spark Open. Additionally, Meta has partnered with Apple to enable developers to run Muse Spark Open locally on multiple high-end Mac computers, and Apple has updated its MLX software toolkit to support the model's operation on Mac devices.
