AI company Anthropic faced bottlenecks with traditional development tools due to the rapid code generation speed of Claude. To address this, the company developed a new version control system, Scion, in just five months with a team of seven, fully replacing Git. Designed for ultra-large-scale codebases, Scion reduces infrastructure scale to 1/200th of the original Git mirror setup by centralizing key operations on the server side, enabling clients to request data on demand, and employing an efficient hierarchical caching mechanism. Code checkout speed has been reduced from minutes to seconds, while continuous integration alone has saved 25% of CPU resources. During development, Claude also assisted in rewriting the data migration pipeline, boosting speed by 4x and reducing memory usage to 1/20th of the original.
