OpenAI is in early acquisition talks with security firm Trail of Bits, with the specific deal size yet to be disclosed. Previously, when acquiring small startups, OpenAI has occasionally used stock payments, with transaction amounts ranging from hundreds of millions of dollars to lower figures. Currently, negotiations between the two parties are still ongoing, but there remains a possibility that the deal could fall through. In June this year, through OpenAI's Daybreak cybersecurity initiative, the two sides jointly launched the open-source software security and patching initiative Patch the Planet. This initiative combines OpenAI's relevant models with the expertise of Trail of Bits professionals to identify, review, and fix code vulnerabilities.
