On October 7, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that governments worldwide need to take urgent action to address challenges such as imbalanced AI development, prolonged energy shocks, and record-high debt accumulation. She noted that while the current AI boom is driving growth, its benefits are limited to a few countries. Georgieva pointed out that AI infrastructure development, energy and food shocks, tariffs, defense spending, and high public debt could all potentially drive up inflation. She called on central banks to adopt a cautious hawkish stance.
