A quarter-century ago, Huawei made its inaugural payment of patent licensing fees to Qualcomm. Now, 25 years on, the collaborative relationship between the two tech giants has evolved to new heights. On October 5th, Huawei and Qualcomm jointly announced the successful negotiation of a comprehensive, multi-year patent licensing pact. This agreement not only deepens their existing partnership but also broadens its scope to encompass cutting-edge domains such as 5G technology, advanced computing, artificial intelligence, and network infrastructure. Furthermore, the deal incorporates an asset exchange component, wherein Qualcomm is set to acquire a selection of Huawei's U.S.-based patents in computing, AI, and networking sectors, subject to the necessary regulatory clearances.
