The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is poised to become the most significant economic investment in U.S. history, dwarfing the scale of monumental projects such as railways, highways, and the foundational internet infrastructure. According to Stein Van Nieuwerburgh, an economist at the Brookings Institution, total investment in data centers and supporting AI infrastructure is projected to reach a staggering $10.3 trillion from 2025 to 2032. This figure translates to an annual investment averaging 3.6% of the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Notably, the U.S. economy has never before been so heavily dependent on the infrastructure expansion of a single industry.
