On September 25, foreign media reported that Thailand’s export growth has accelerated to its fastest rate in four years, buoyed by a spike in electronics shipments driven by the global artificial intelligence (AI) boom and a sharp rise in Chinese demand for Thai durians and mangosteens. According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce on Friday, Thailand’s exports in August surged by 24.3% year-on-year—the highest growth in 56 months—outpacing July’s 21.6% increase. During the same period, imports climbed by 25.1%, slowing from July’s 36.7% rise, while the trade deficit narrowed from USD 3.6 billion in July to USD 2.5 billion. The Ministry of Commerce projects that Thailand’s exports will hit a record high this year. As global tech firms ramp up investments in AI infrastructure, electronics—which constitute nearly one-third of Thailand’s export portfolio—are poised to remain a critical driver of growth.
