According to insiders and senior U.S. government officials granted anonymity, the White House has requested that OpenAI and Anthropic refrain from sharing their latest artificial intelligence models with UK government testing agencies until the U.S. government completes its testing. This request, originating from the Office of the National Cyber Director, has placed the companies in a dilemma: either refuse to provide the models to the UK’s AI Safety Institute—one of the world’s most resource-rich government testing bodies, which previously enjoyed priority access—or risk angering the Trump administration’s White House.
