Recently, Alibaba DAMO Academy, working in tandem with Sichuan Cancer Hospital and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, has successfully developed an AI model specifically designed for esophageal cancer screening, named DAMO EAGLE. This model represents a significant breakthrough in traditional screening techniques, as it eliminates the necessity for patient intubation or the injection of contrast agents. By simply analyzing routine chest plain CT scans, DAMO EAGLE can precisely detect esophageal cancer, encompassing both early-stage and pre-cancerous lesions. This groundbreaking innovation has undergone rigorous validation across more than 80,000 cases in three different countries and has been published in the prestigious international medical journal Nature Medicine. The introduction of DAMO EAGLE offers a more convenient and efficient approach to screening for the early detection of esophageal cancer.
