According to Nikkei News, Japan aims to nurture space engineers through the initiative of holding a robot competition aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This contest is scheduled to unfold in 2027 at the Japanese 'Kibo' experimental module on the ISS. Teams taking part will be tasked with maneuvering robots through the use of artificial intelligence. As per market research aggregator Global Information, it is projected that by 2035, the market size related to this field will soar to USD 12.4 billion, approximately doubling from its 2026 figure.
