Microsoft has recently acknowledged a known system issue on the Windows platform that arises following the installation of certain security updates. Specifically, some third-party applications may experience unexpected crashes, freezes, or an inability to open when attempting to launch or call upon Microsoft Office components (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and their associated documents. This problem originates from the June 2026 cumulative update (e.g., KB5094126), which disrupts the OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation functionality—a crucial interface that enables third-party software to interact with and invoke Office components. Software affected by this issue includes commercial applications that heavily rely on OLE automation, such as financial accounting software, dental management systems, and reference management tools. To mitigate this problem temporarily, Microsoft suggests that users manually launch the Office software and load the documents they need, or alternatively, uninstall the problematic update. The company has also committed to releasing a fix patch by July 14, 2026, to resolve this issue permanently.
