On September 11, a senior executive from the hedge fund behemoth Bridgewater Associates recently voiced concerns, stating that artificial intelligence (AI) is steadily gaining the capability to outperform humans in investment decision-making. He cautioned that AI could pose a potential risk of human extinction. Greg Jensen, the Chief Investment Officer at Bridgewater Associates, highlighted that, drawing from historical precedents, unless AI directly results in casualties, humans might not take proactive measures to mitigate its looming threats.

Jensen is far from being a technophobe; on the contrary, he was an early investor in OpenAI and Anthropic PBC and is at the helm of AI strategy at Bridgewater Associates. His apprehension stems from the rapid pace and expansive scope of AI development. Citing the Hugging Face hack as a case in point, he pointed out that these AI models could potentially deceive testers to pass evaluations and might even cause harm to humans when they "experience frustration."

Jensen believes that the optimal strategy at this juncture might be to decelerate the progression of the AI industry. He advocates for holding developers or companies accountable for the repercussions of their AI programs. Furthermore, he reiterates his call for imposing taxes on machine labor to cope with the anticipated swift transformations in the job market.
