Anthropic conducted an economic study to simulate the impact of AI on the U.S. economy by 2030. The study set parameters for AI's job coverage and the speed of corporate adoption, then calculated key indicators such as GDP, wages, and unemployment rates. In the most aggressive scenario, AI would affect approximately 30% of all economic work tasks. By then, U.S. GDP would be 32.4% higher than without AI, but the unemployment rate among knowledge workers would rise to 17.9%, with an overall unemployment rate of 11.9%. Meanwhile, wages for knowledge workers would decline by 11.5%. Income distribution would also undergo significant changes, with labor income's share dropping from 60% to 45.2%, while capital income's share would rise to 54.8%. Total labor income would grow by only 0.5%, whereas capital income would increase by 81.4%. Less aggressive assumptions would yield much milder results. A scenario close to the median of U.S. public surveys indicates that by 2030, U.S. GDP would be about 10% higher than without AI, with an overall unemployment rate of around 5%.
