On September 8 (local time), Meta officially launched its personal AI assistant, Muse, positioned as a 'personal AI Agent.' Muse can autonomously break down tasks without requiring detailed instructions from users, leveraging external applications to complete tasks such as sending and receiving emails, scheduling appointments, booking travel, and more. Even when the app is closed, Muse continues to run in the cloud, only returning decision-making control to users for sensitive operations and critical milestones. Initially launched in the U.S. market, Muse is accessible via a standalone app, web interface, and WhatsApp, with plans to integrate with Meta's AI glasses in the future. Muse offers a free version along with subscription plans priced at $20 or $100 per month. In terms of security and privacy, Muse provides each user with an independent cloud-based virtual machine, Muse Secure VM, and features a Sentinel system to review operations and restrict permissions. Users can authorize Muse to perform specific tasks, transactions, or operations during designated periods. Importantly, Muse cannot directly access user passwords or payment information, and its interaction data will not be used for advertising systems. Meta also plans to introduce Confidential VM in the future for even more robust privacy protection. Muse originated from Meta's internal project, Hatch, and is built on the Muse Spark model, originally scheduled for release in April 2026. Due to enhanced security measures, the model's release was delayed, ultimately leading Muse to adopt a dual-system architecture. Compared to similar products, Muse stands out with its design for long-term operation, low barrier to entry, and Meta's advantage in consumer-grade access points, enabling it to leverage social connections and content context. Zuckerberg stated that Muse will initially offer generous free usage quotas, with a business model consisting of two layers: subscriptions and transaction commissions. The goal is to 'pay for itself' by helping users generate revenue or save expenses. Additionally, Muse is proactive, capable of remembering user information and offering suggestions, while also allowing users to customize its name, avatar, and communication style.
