Microsoft has jointly established new school AI safety and privacy standards with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and its New York City affiliate (UFT). According to the agreement, school districts adopting these standards can incorporate relevant clauses into contracts with legal force. These clauses include: prohibiting the use of student or educator data for training AI models, minimizing data collection, explaining tool functionalities to families in plain language, banning the deployment of AI companionship products, and requiring human review for 'high-risk' decisions.
