Anthropic has released the Model Hardware Standard (MHS) in a research preview format, which is seen as its first public venture into the field of embodied intelligence and physical AI. Physical AI refers to AI systems capable of perceiving and acting upon the physical world, possessing continuous learning abilities, and having a physical embodiment. As a unified control and communication standard, MHS enables AI agents to operate devices with programmable interfaces. In tests across fields such as biopharmaceuticals and quantum computing, MHS has demonstrated significant acceleration capabilities. For example, Genentech utilized MHS to reduce the speed of fully automated dose-response curve experiments to one-third of the original time.
