On August 28, Vietnam, with an ambition to emerge as a regional innovation hub, urged its leaders to encourage Qualcomm and Samsung to ramp up their investments in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and research and development (R&D). During a Thursday meeting with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon in Hanoi, Vietnamese President Su Lin voiced his aspiration for Qualcomm to amplify its investments in key areas such as AI, semiconductors, robotics, 5G/6G, data centers, and next-generation connectivity technologies. He outlined a vision to position Vietnam as Qualcomm's third-largest global AI R&D center.
In a parallel development, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung conveyed to Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon his expectation that Samsung would persist as a pivotal ally in bolstering Vietnam's technological prowess, fostering its industrial foundation, and facilitating its integration into the global value chain. Since initiating production in Vietnam 17 years ago, Samsung's mobile phone manufacturing units in the country have, by the end of June, amassed cumulative exports valued at $500 billion, with total investments soaring to $24 billion.
