On August 27 (local time), a federal judge presiding over the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued a ruling, declaring that the U.S. Department of Defense's decision to blacklist the AI company Anthropic was unlawful. In her verdict, Judge Rita Lin underscored that the actions taken by the Department of Defense contravened both the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. Furthermore, she stated that the decision by Secretary of Defense Hegseth to label Anthropic as a 'supply chain risk' not only breached the established statutory framework but also amounted to arbitrary and capricious behavior.
